Solution

Visual Studio throws 'Invalid License Exception' when I debug my program on a target machine.

Cause - There is a runtime deployment file (*rt.lic) included in project which does not support Visual Studio IDE or debuggers.

Short Term Solution (up to 30 days)

Testing and Debug on Target Machines

  1. Remove the (*.lic) runtime license from the target machine.

  2. Install unlicensed Trial/Evaluation version (10 days)

  3. Get Trial Extension for another 10 days

  4. Install licensed version, register but do not activate (10 days)

  5. Add the (*.lic) runtime license on the target machine

Testing and Debug on Target Machines

Long Term Solution (over 30 days)

  1. Remove (*.lic) runtime license file from target machine

  2. Deactivate and Move a license from another computer.

  3. Install licensed version on target computer

  4. Activate target computer

  5. Deactivate when complete

  6. Add (*.lic) runtime license on target machine

    Testing and Debug on Target Machines

    Permanent Test/Debugging

    The Single Edition License will grant have permanent testing/debugging capabilities on a target machine
